This past March I joined the Lake In The Hills (LITH) Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). It required many hours of training and will enable me to assist our police and fire protection district in the event of a disaster in our community.
I did this for a couple of reasons. First, it really scratched me where I itched; I was a real boyscout, and love working with this kind of stuff. God has gifted me with the ability to rise up on occasions in the midst of uncertainty in situations, in fact, I thrive on it. I think that is one of the reasons why I love church planting!
Second, I thought this would be a great way to serve and connect with other leaders in our community. I have met some really great people and had some good spiritual conversations.
In preparing for our upcoming leadership gatherings with Pastor Dan at Springbrook, I have been praying that God would stir something in my heart that would really connect with our leaders, and I think I found it!
As I think about the purpose of the LITH CERT, and all the hours I have spent investing in it, I can’t help but imagine what it would be like to have the same kind of team at Springbrook. What if we had a Springbrook Emergency Response Team (SERT) that we could mobilize to penetrate and impact our community for Christ, not just when there was a disaster in our lives, but in preparation for the return of our savior!
I think I’ll start praying for leaders on SERT!
